Job Description:
Purpose Statement The job of Aqua Aerobics Instructor is done
for the purpose/s of teaching choreographed water aerobics classes
to increase the health and physical fitness of patrons; conducting
courses and activities incorporating water aerobics; and serving as
an ambassador for the Aquatic center with a cheerful and positive
attitude. This job reports to the Aquatic Center Director Essential
Functions Assists in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related
areas of the facilities for the purpose of maintaining the facility
in a sanitary and safe condition. Assists the Activities
Coordinator with organizing and scheduling classes for the purpose
of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Conducts
courses and activities incorporating water aerobics for the purpose
of increasing the health and physical fitness of patrons. Prepares
choreographed routines and music accompaniment for the purpose of
teaching water aerobic classes. Prepares logs, reports, and
documents (e.g. registration/booking systems, progress reports,,
etc.) for the purpose of conveying information, providing written
reference, and/or meeting mandated requirements. Promotes a safe
and enjoyable learning environment for those participating in
swimming activities for the purpose of ensuring the safety and
welfare of participants at the facility. Provides a creative,
educational service for students, public, and other outside user
groups for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning
environment. esponds to inquiries and complaints related to the
aerobics program for the purpose of greeting patrons and providing
information about the program. Serves as an ambassador of the Lee's
Summit R-VII School District for the purpose of engaging with the
public in a respectful, professional and positive manner. Other
Functions Performs other related duties for the purpose of ensuring
the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and
Abilities KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including
calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a
variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats,
and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to
define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based
competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of
the job include: codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; safety
practices; and health standards.; age appropriate
activities/behaviors; knowledge of community resources; methods of
instruction and training; school safety and security practices;
stages of child development. SKILLS are required to perform single,
technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order
to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies
required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
include: training; supervision; office practices; administer basic
first aid and CPR; effective listening; leadership; and guiding
others; adhering to safety practices and procedures; administer
first aid and/or prescribed medications; analyzing data; using
pertinent software applications. ABILITY is required to schedule
activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data;
and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with
others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing
defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a
variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work
with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data;
and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to
identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data
requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem
solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based
competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of
the job include: reliability; working flexible hours; and
communication with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills;
adapting to changing work priorities; dealing with frequent
interruptions; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and
schedules; working as part of a team. Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using
standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons
within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget.
Utilization of some resources from other work units is often
required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity
to significantly impact the organization’s services. Working
Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's
functions require the following physical demands: occasional
lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and
balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and
significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20%
sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing. The job is performed under
minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free
environment. Experience Job related experience with increasing
levels of responsibility is desired in background in group fitness
instruction or personal training, who can adapt landbased fitness
principles to an aquatic environment. Education High School diploma
or equivalent. Required Testing Pre-employment Proficiency Test
Certificates & Licenses CPR Clearances Criminal Justice
Fingerprint/Background Clearance Continuing Educ. / Training Renew
Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer on a
yearly basis.
