Job Description:



Part Time Registered Nurse needed to begin as soon as possible
Purpose Statement:

The job of District Registered Nurse (RN) is done for the purpose/s of overseeing day-to-day needs of school clinics; assessing the health needs of students; developing emergency care plans and individual health plans; taking into consideration input from parent and/or physician; complying with the laws relating to student health, including parental and guardian consent; providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information and serving as a resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; and identifying health problems for referral for proper treatment.




Essential Functions:




Acts as a resource to district health aides for students referred with illness and/or injury for the purpose of attending to students' immediate health care concerns.




Assesses situations involving students' safety, abuse and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems and complying with legal requirements.




Collaborates with parents, students, staff, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services; providing information and complying with legal requirements.




Conducts clinic assessments (e.g., health issues, student health records, emergency preparedness, etc.) and reports concerns to an administrator for the purpose of identifying issues and/or providing recommendations for improving safety and accuracy.




Conducts age appropriate programs and/or activities in conjunction with classroom curriculum (e.g. health education, growth and development, etc.) for the purpose of supporting established lesson plans.




Determines priorities for screening programs and conducts screenings (e.g. vision, dental, and/or scoliosis screenings, etc.) for the purpose of referring students who do not meet standard guidelines.




Develops and implements individual student health care/emergency plans for the purpose of addressing students' health needs; providing direction to site personnel; collaborating with parents and/or physicians; and meeting the needs of students with chronic health problems and/or accommodation requirements.




Directs and/or administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments (e.g. suctioning, catheterization, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.




Establishes and maintains students' confidential files and records for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.




Maintains contact with parents/guardians for the purpose of informing them of changes in student health and/or possibility for further medical intervention.




Monitors students with chronic illnesses for the purpose of assisting the student in achieving the highest possible functional level.




Participates in a variety of meetings and interdisciplinary teams for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students' health needs.




Provides training on a variety of health related subjects (e.g. CPR/AED, health education, growth and development, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students and school staff.




Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. suspected substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.




Researches a variety of topics relating to health and medical care (e.g. wellness, treatment protocols, childhood diseases, etc.) for the purpose of providing information to staff, students, and parents.




Responds to emergency medical situations for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention.




Writes and develops district health procedures for the medical care of students for the purpose of complying with current medical guidelines and ensuring consistent clinic practices.

Other Functions:

Facilitates follow-up medical care and/or promotes access to health care providers as needed for the purpose of ensuring students are receiving the appropriate medical attention.




Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.




Transports supplies and equipment to school clinics for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.


Required Testing: Certificates and Licenses:





CPR/AED Certificate Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/AED Certificate

First Aid Certificate CPR Instructor License

Active Registered Nurse License in the State of Missouri


Continuing Educ. / Training: Clearances:


CPR/AED Certificate Renewal First Aid Certificate Renewal Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Maintains Certificates and/or Licenses MO DFS Child Abuse/Neglect Records Check

May be required to work evenings and/or weekends
