Performs general maintenance and repair of the City's water
distribution system which is comprised of water mains, valves, fire
hydrants and pump stations. Participates in after work hours
emergency response for sewer and water distribution related issues.
Participates in snow removal operations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates equipment, including but not limited to, dump trucks,
loaders, skid steer loaders, excavators, snow plows, and
miscellaneous hand tools.
Repairs and maintains assigned equipment.
Performs maintenance and general repair work to assigned city
Responds to emergency calls for service after regular work hours
and is on-call during winter season for snow removal.
Purchases items needed for repair or maintenance work.
- May supervise a crew of one or more workers.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Class A
commercial driver's license (CDL) with endorsements, or ability to
obtain. Missouri Department of Natural Resources Water Distribution
III Certificate preferred.
Six months to one year of experience in a related field.
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Skills -Skill in operating tools and equipment used in the
maintenance and repair of assigned infrastructure. Requires
knowledge of water distribution systems, emergency generators,
transfer switches, pumps/motors, general knowledge of street and
ground maintenance. Ability to read and interpret instructions,
directions, drawings and blueprints. Knowledge in the safety rules
and practices associated with working in the underground utility
Mental Requirements -Ability to follow complex oral and/or
written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively and
interface with the general public and associates. Ability to work
under stressful conditions and environmental extremes.
Physical Requirements -Ability to perform heavy manual labor
requiring good physical condition. Must be able to work in all
types of weather conditions common with the local climate, must be
able to listen to normal conversation; must be able to walk, and
use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools,
or controls; must be able to reach with hands and arms; must be
able to have vision sufficient to see close up and have the ability
to focus; and must be able to lift up to 80 pounds and transport it
Supervisory Responsibility -Provides direct supervision of
assigned seasonal maintenance staff.
